For this photography project I chose it do the theme disguise because I thought it would be an interesting theme to explore. Within this theme there were loads of different photographers that I thought linked to my chosen theme disguise to chose from which I loved because all the photographers photos all has really different unique styles to them. Within my disguise photography project I choose to research Maurizio Anzeri, Linder Sterling, William Klein, Lucas Simoes and Luca Pierro and I decided to analysis the following three of them Linder Sterling, Lucas Simoes and Luca Pierro.
Linder Sterling
This photo taken by Linder Sterling has inspired my own
photography work by showing how effective it can be by using different cut outs
of someone's face to cover that area of the models face shown in this photo,
this idea also fits in with my chosen theme disguise. Within this image there
is a female model holding up a picture of the bottom half of her face. the top
half of the models face appears the sharpest and clearest in this photo whereas
the bottom half is too bright which makes the outlines of the face features not
as sharp and affective. This photo has been edited to B&W to create more
affect and make everything more defined like the shadows of the face and helps
show more depth in the photo. some parts of the pictured that more defined for example
her eyebrows and eyes, the effect of this could have just been made using make
up, for example drawing her eyebrows on more dark and bold and using a dark
colour for her eyeliner to make her eyes stand out more I think the amount of
make she's wearing around her eyes draws attention to them. I feel this image
represents the theme disguise really well because the model is nearly hiding
half of her face but what makes it affective is that she's covering it with a
picture of the covered up half that you can’t see. the props used in this photo
are really affective because it gives you the impression that this is quite a
vintage styled photo for example the pears, pears are an old vintage fashion as
well as the black netted top. I really like the style of this photo because of
the mood it’s trying to present. I feel like the model is purposely trying to
look mischievous which also fits in well with the defined make up.
Lucas Simoes
This photo taken by Lucas Simoes is another photographer I have chosen to study to do with my chosen theme disguise, I have also chosen this photo to study because I like the way Lucas Simoes has edited this photo to B&W because it has drawn the attention away from any other aspects of the photo so all your attention is drawn to the way he has edited the picture to cut and move around the triangle shapes of the male models face. The model is looking straight forward at the camera with sly smirk on his face with sets almost a mischievous mood. The man in the photo is wearing a suit and tie which shows that he may be in his work clothes or had just been to a business meeting. The photo has been had to look like an illusion which creates confusion to the public eye, I think this makes the photo really affective and eye catching. What I like about this photo is that it’s different to all the other, almost all the work put in has been on Photoshop for example changing the colour of the image to B&W and the editing of the cut out triangles. I think this image really fits in well with the theme disguise due to the fact that his face it almost unable to see because of the editing. To use this in my own photography I would like to take a range of close up photos of my model and do the rest of the work of Photoshop like changing it to black and white and editing my chosen shapes and effects.
Luca Pierro
Luca Pierro is my last chosen photographer to help inspire
my disguise themed photography work. I have chosen Luca Pierro and this peace
because I find it unusual and interesting to look at just like all of his other
photography work and I also think it draws a lot of attention because of how
different it is. it looks like a pair of tights have been stretched over the
models face to create this affect showing just her hands covering her cheeks,
nose and eyebrows, I think the eyebrows make the image look even more affective
due to how dark they are and how much they can be seen through the material
used. I think this image fits in well with the theme disguise because of the
tights covering the models face; I like the fact that even though there's a
material covering the models face that you can still see the outlines and
shapes of her face. It doesn't look like a lot of light has been used in this
photo and I think the majority of the light is natural lighting. The tights
make a pattern of lines all going in the same direction, horizontally. There is
a range of different light tones going from light to dark throughout the whole
image. I look like there are a few shadows created from where the models face
is facing down and the natural light is coming from above. All the edges in this photo look soft and the
effects of the tights makes it look like its gradually fading out into the
background. I think this will help me in my photography work because it has
given me the idea of putting a pair tights like material over my models head to
create the same affect.
I have been inspired to take these styled photos by Luca Pierro. I used a model with tights over her head as a type of disguise, you can see some of her facial features but not clearly. I took these images in a studio using a white back ground and spot lights and a light reflector to bounce the spot lights up to the face to make it more affective and so you can see the facial features more defined.
Within this photo shoot inspired by Linder Sterling for my theme disguise I took a range of photos with a already taken photo of my model to cover up that part of her face. I found this style of photography really interesting and affective and it also fits in with my chosen theme disguise.
Within this photo shoot inspired by Lucas Simoes I took a range of simple portrait photos and used Photoshop to put a mono chrome affect on to my chosen photos and changed the brightness with a gradient tool to make the photo look brighter with a white background. I also used a polygon lasso tool to cut out different shapes of the photo to move them around, rotate them or cut them out to make the picture more affective, interesting and unique and it also makes the images fit in with the theme disguise.
Masked Paper
I edited my three chosen photos from my Linder Sterling inspired disguise themed photos with Photoshop. Within these edits I was attempting to use mono chrome to make the pictures look more affective and sharper around the jaw and eyes, I changed the brightness and contrast to make the images used blend in with the paper.
Masked Tights
Within these photos I was attempting to use a black and white affect to give them almost an shadow looking affect and so you could see the models facial features though the tights. Using brightness and contrast helped make my edits more sharp and affective making the background really light and the subject matter, the models features more defined and dark.
My Final Triptych
I have chosen these three images to present for my final triptych
